The relationship between India and the US is essential to promote stability, democracy and prosperity in the 21st century and two countries should continue to strengthen their relations, a Congressional resolution has said.
The resolution introduced by Congressman Joseph Crowley, a top Democratic leader in the House of Representatives on January 27 recognises the democratic values shared between the United States and India.
The resolution has called for the continued strengthening of relations between the two nations.
It is being co-sponsored by Congressmen George Holding the Ami Bera - the two co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.
Noting that India US relationship is essential to promoting stability, democracy and prosperity in the 21st century, the resolution says the successive American Presidents have worked on a bipartisan basis to strengthen and deepen relations between the two countries.
A founding member of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, Crowley was among the four US lawmakers invited by the US President Barack Obama to travel with him to India to attend the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26.
The resolution which is sent to the House Foreign Affairs Committee for necessary action says that the relations between the United States and India have exponentially increased over the past decade, including in areas of defence, global security, poverty alleviation, education, economic growth and job creation.
Observing that approximately 3,000,000 Indian-Americans reside in the US and contribute to the economic, cultural, and community strength of the US, it said that people-to-people ties between the two countries strengthen the rapidly growing bilateral partnership.
People of the US and India maintain a shared commitment to building democratic institutions, it said.
