The ad-hoc committee formed by the IOA to run Indian boxing in the wake of the federation's international termination, will meet for the first time on April 17 to discuss team selections and conduct of national championships among other issues.
The six-member committee, headed by Tarlochan Singh, was supposed to hold its first meeting last week but it had to be postponed after one of the members, Kishan Narsi, reported sick.
"It is the first meeting and a range of issues will come up for discussion, including the holding of National and Zonal Championships for men, women, youth and juniors. Besides the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games are also drawing closer and team selection would be also on the agenda," a source told PTI.
The committee was formed by the IOA after the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation was terminated by the International Boxing Association following its failure to hold fresh elections.
"CWG and the Asiad are very crucial and this meeting will chart the way forward for Indian boxing. Let's see what comes out," the source said.
Besides being terminated by AIBA, the IABF has also been de-recognised by the Sports Ministry.
The beleaguered body is now waiting for some missive from AIBA, which has invited applications from individuals and groups with a passion for the sport to form a new federation.
The AIBA Executive Committee is expected to meet in Sofia, Bulgaria during the ongoing World Youth Championships where a decision on Indian boxing's future could be taken.
After provisionally suspending the IBF on December 6, 2012, AIBA has not recognised any official activities and has not supported the Indian officials for more than 16 months now.
Besides, Singh and Narsi, the IOA ad-hoc committee comprises national coach G S Sandhu, Mehtab Singh, Rakesh Gupta and Kuldip Vats.
