The 27-year-old former Disney star said she took a long time to return because she was waiting for the right project, reported E!Online.
"I think since I started on TV it feels really good to be back there, it feels like home and I really love that schedule," she said.
"I think the reason why I took so long was just really trying to find the right project... And when I read this script it was pretty perfect," she added.
Duff said her upcoming album "This Heart", her first musical project in seven years, is slated for release sometime this year.
"And all the other time I had has been working on the record, getting it to where it needs to be," she said.
