It's good to be 18 in Hollywood now: Moretz

Chloe Grace Moretz, who plays the lead in "The 5th Wave", feels it is a good time to be 18 in Hollywood as there are more options for young actresses than just being a daughter to someone on screen.
"It's nice to be 18 in this world. If I was 18 as a woman 10 years or even five years ago, these roles were not around. I wouldn't be getting any scripts other than the daughter or may be the mistress. Now, there are these amazing female roles that are fun," she said in an interview while promoting the movie in Cancun, Mexico.

Chloe attributes this change to increasing female power in decision making.
"Society has changed. Women have a voice, they are finally being listened to... Instead this pretty painted picture which has always been, we are actually depicting ourselves as we are.
"Instead of having to swallow our pride and follow the system and succumb to everything that we have been taught, we are able to say whatever we want like guys," Chloe said.
In the J Blakeson-directed movie, which was released in India by Sony Pictures Entertainment this Friday, the 18-year-old stars as Cassie Sullivan.

The film also stars Nick Robinson, Ron Livingston and Liev Schreiber.

Based on Rick Yancey's novel, the movie revolves around how Cassie must find a way to get her young brother in the aliens-invaded post-apocalypse world, which has already claimed the life of her parents.
The "Carrie" star was attracted to her role in "The 5th Wave" because there is a strong sense of "spirit and humanity" in it.
"What makes us human is trust, honesty and the fact that we don't give up. When things become so rapid and so devoid of emotion, I wanted to pick up a story that was purely based on love, emotion and family," she said.

Chloe believes people of her age are so busy with the social media that real human interaction is becoming impossible.
When told that she sounds mature beyond her age, the actress said probably that had a lot to do with being born after four brothers.
"Honestly, it comes from observing... I think age is strickly just a number," she said, adding her family helped her from straying which affects a lot of child stars in Hollywood.
"I think I have a good head on my shoulders but you are faced with a lot of temptation at a young age, especially when you are given so much power from the time you were 12-year-old. Power, influence and money that you should not have.

"My family kept that away from me. On sets, people always pampered me but my mother would say no to that.... Back home, I had to do chores, I was not allowed to use the money or buy a Ferrari. My mother would tell me, 'I birthed you, I named you, fall in line kid'."
Chloe looks up to Julianne Moore, Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron and Natalie Portman in Hollywood.
