Eighteen teachers from Army Goodwill Schools in Jammu and Kashmir were today awarded by the Indian Army's northern command chief Lt Gen D Anbu at Udhampur.
The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, felicitated the teachers of the Army Goodwill Schools at an award ceremony in Udhampur, a defence spokesman said.
The awards were given to 18 teachers from different Army Goodwill Schools, he said.
These teachers were selected after a stringent process based on their teaching ability and use of modern teaching aids, the spokesman said.
He said that the awards were sponsored by the Satya Bharti Foundation and included cash prizes, trophies and certificates.
"The commander applauded the excellent work done by the Army Goodwill Schools in contributing towards improvement of education standards in the state," the spokesman said, adding that he also asked teachers to be role models and teach students to be responsible citizens.
Mohd. Ashraf Magrey from Ziran was awarded the first prize in the senior secondary level category.
He thanked the Army for providing a platform for teachers to showcase their abilities and making a positive contribution in improving the environment of education in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Northern Command runs 45 Army Goodwill Schools under 'Project Sadbhavana', which provides education to 15,144 students and employs 800 teachers, the spokesman said.
These schools have become islands of excellence and are contributing positively to the over all development of the youth in J-K, he said.
