J&K govt to replicate NLISU, NALSAR models of learning

J&K government has decided to set up a National Law University in the state on lines of the institutes of higher learning in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
"A high-level state delegation led by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari yesterday left for Bangalore and Hyderabad to appraise in person the NLISU and NALSAR models to be adopted for the proposed law university in J&K," an official spokesman said.
The minister is accompanied by senior officers of the state's Law Department including Law Secretary, Mohammad Ashraf Mir.
"We have set out on this ambitious project of having a National Law University in J&K on the initiative of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed," Bukhari said.

The minister said the state team would be visiting National Law School of India University (NLISU) in Bangalore and National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR)in Hyderabad to see their functioning and replicate a similar institution of repute in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bukhari said that most of the states in the country including New Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh have already established National Law Universities.

"Given the keen interest evinced by the students from J&K to pursue advanced courses in legal sciences and research, mostly outside the state, there is a pressing demand for setting up a National Law University in J&K," he added.

The minister said besides undergraduate and post-graduate courses, the proposed university would also offer doctorate in law.
There would be super-specialized courses in Business Law, Corporate Governance, Human Rights, Medical Law, Disability Law, Environmental Law, Cyber Law and IP Law as well, he said.
