The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (PSC), an autonomous body tasked with recruiting officers to gazetted cadre in the state, is all set to go hi-tech with technology being used to cut the gestation periods in selection processes and screenings.
"The step has been taken to overcome the delays caused in selection processes due to age old manual means of document checking and eligibility determination and repletion of the processes," PSC Chairman Latief-uz-Zaman Deva said.
According to the new procedure which will automate the functioning of the Commission, one time registration of candidates has been introduced, he said.
Deva said the candidature of a candidate remains alive once he or she registers for a job vacancy after completing the eligibility conditions.
The candidate would continue to receive system generated job alerts through SMS or email till he or she attains the upper age limit or gets a job, he added.
The Commission has also proposed to introduce online submission or collection of application forms for the posts advertised, Deva said.
"This would quicken the process of short listing and screening of candidates considerably which otherwise would take months and even a year or so if the number of candidates applying would be more. Also it would reduce the overall gestation period of selections," he added.
He said admit cards and other communications would be sent to candidates through electronic mode with the introduction of e-admit cards and e-summon letters.
"This way the old method of sending the same through post which would take weeks to reach the candidates would be dispensed with," he added.
The Commission is also proposing conducting various examinations online as is being done by recruiting agencies elsewhere to save time and pace up the selection process, Deva said.
