J'khand CM welcomes SC verdict in Ayodhya case

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Saturday welcomed the Supreme Court judgement in the Ayodhya land dispute case and urged people not to take the verdict as a "win or loss".

The Supreme Court in a unanimous verdict paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya, and directed the Centre to allot a 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a mosque.

"We all welcome the judgement of the Supreme Court in Ayodhya case. It should not be seen as a win or loss to anyone. The verdict has given new strength to our culture," Das said in a statement.

He appealed to everyone to respect the apex court judgement and maintained "harmony, brotherhood and love".

In one of the most important and much anticipated judgements in India's history, a five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi put an end to the more than a century old dispute.

The bench said possession of the disputed 2.77 acre land rights will be handed over to the deity Ram Lalla, who is one of the litigants in the case. The possession, however, will remain with a central government receiver.

BJP's state unit president and former MP Laxman Gilua said that the verdict is a "victory to Indian Constitution and the judicial process".
