Addressing a press conference in the city, WPI's national general secretary SQR Ilyas and its Marathwada executive Mujtaba Farooq claimed that the party's agenda is "secular" and people from all walks of life are joining it.

Ilyas said the party, which was established two years back in New Delhi, had already formed units in eight states and its mass convention will be launched in April in Mumbai.

Mujtaba said the party demands reservation to Muslims as recommended by the Mishra Commission and alleged that innocent youths from the community have been labelled terrorists and thrown in jail.

They should be released and the culprits be arrested, he said.

Inflation, security to women, welfare of farmers and peasants, alleged police high handedness, human rights violations, a bill against communal violence and other such issues were on the WPI's agenda, they said.
