Jamia Millia Islamia today announced cancellation of its BDS entrance examination and said it will admit students through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the CBSE.
"As per the order of the Supreme Court regarding National NEET administered by the CBSE, Jamia's BDS entrance examination scheduled for June 3 stands cancelled," the varsity said in a statement.
"All prospective candidates who are desirous of gaining admission to the BDS course at JMI for the academic year 2016-17 are required to appear in the NEET. Jamia will use NEET all India rankings for selection under existing admission/reservation policy of the university," it added.
While NEET-1 was held on May 1, NEET-2 is scheduled for Juy 24.
Jamia will also reopen the admission process for the BDS programme from June 1 to 15.
The court had earlier directed that a common entrance test-- NEET--will be held across India for MBBS and dental courses.
But state governments had objected to its implementation from this year, saying it will be too stressful for students as they had little time to prepare for the syllabus and also there were issue of language.
President Pranab Mukherjee today signed the ordinance to keep state boards out of the common entrance test for MBBS and dental courses for this year.
The President promulgated the ordinance this morning after Health Ministry officials returned with the file addressing all the queries raised by him.
