With the north east monsoon active over Tamil Nadu, bringing good rains, the government today asked respective district administrations to put in place all preventive measures.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa directed Collectors and SPs to take up preventive measures and also announced increasing relief and compensation for those killed in rain-related incidents as well as damage to property .
She said despite government's preventive measures, loss of life and damage to property was possible and therefore directed expediting relief and compensation in such cases.
She said she had directed that relief to families of persons killed due to rain-related incidents be increased to Rs four lakh from Rs 2.5 lakh and that completely damaged houses will get Rs 95,100.
Fully damaged and partially affected huts will get Rs 5000 and Rs 4,100, respectively, she said in a statement adding the government will also supply one litre of kerosene and 10 kg of rice for affected persons.
Families lodged in relief camps will be provided 10 kg rice, a saree and dhoti each, one litre kerosene and Rs 1000 cash, Jayalalithaa said.
As regard possible crop loss, she offered compensation ranging between Rs 13,500 per hectare to Rs 18,000 depending on different categories of crops.
Further, the compensation for dead cattle--cow and buffalo-- will be Rs 30,000 while that for goat and pig will be Rs 3000, she said.
Poultry killed in rain related incidents will be provided Rs 100, she said.
Loss to boats also will be compensated, she said.
This ranged from a 50 per cent subsidy on Rs 75,000 for FRP Vallam types of boats to Rs 32,000 compensation to completely damaged country boats, she said.
