DMK president M Karunanidhi today termed as a "climb down" AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa's assertion that she would take a decision on forging alliance for the Assembly poll and said it showed a setback for the ruling party.
"Isn't the ruling party's setback visible when Jayalalithaa made a climb down by asserting that she would take a right decision over (forming) alliance," he said.
"Jayalalithaa used to claim that AIADMK will have no truck with any other party, and she had also said that foes were not visible (to her)," he said in his letter to cadres that would be published in party mouthpiece 'Murasoli'.
Jayalalithaa had shown disinterest in forging alliances after the 2011 Assembly polls in which her party made a big comeback and continued to post electoral wins single-handedly.
However, addressing AIADMK general council on December 31 last year, she said, "there is no specific strategy to face polls. For instance, we aligned with some parties for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and some parties for the 2011 Assembly polls.
"Similarly, for the Assembly elections I will take a correct decision according to the situation prevalent at that point of time," she had said.
Referring to Jayalalithaa's diktat that her Ministers should respond then and there to the allegations of the DMK, he said, they should respond to several allegations being made by the DMK for the past many months.
"What are all the announcements that have been implemented? Answer this," he said. Citing the Global Investors Meet here last year in which Tamil Nadu government had claimed attracting investments to the tune of Rs 2,42,000 crore, he wanted an explanation if such investments had come.
Criticising Jayalalithaa again over the release of surplus water from Chembarambakkam Reservoir here, he asked why the government swirled in discomfort when a judicial inquiry was sought. "Answer us," he demanded.
