On one side, the BJP says it will increase the income of farmers, however, in practice nothing is being done to save farmer from their deteriorating condition," Chaudhary told a Kisan Akrosh Panchayat' at Morki Inter College, some 70 kms from here.
He demanded changes in the existing rules of crop insurance scheme. "The crop being damaged by stray cows should be included in the insurance scheme," he added.
He alleged, the state and Union governments have paid Rs 20,374 crore in the Agriculture Welfare Cell under the insurance head as its premium, however, hardly 4,000 crores have been given to farmer as compensation. The rest has become the income of insurance companies, he alleged.
