Private carrier Jet Airways today said from January 30 it would be operating a smaller aircraft in place of wide-body Airbus 330 to Singapore from here due to scheduled maintenance of the plane currently in operation.
The Delhi-Singapore sector will be serviced by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft between January 30 and February 12, sources said.
Jet Airways operates daily to Singapore from New Delhi and Mumbai.
"Jet Airways will not operate the Airbus A330-200 on its Delhi-Singapore route between January 30 and February 12 as the aircraft has to go for C-check. The route during this period will be services by a Boeing 737-800 plane," they said.
The narrow-body Boeing 737-800 has lesser seating capacity compared to a wide-body Airbus 330-200.
Aircraft, as part of the regulations, have to undergo periodic maintenance checks. A "C check" is performed after every 20-24 months. The time needed to complete such a check is generally 1-2 weeks.
The Mumbai headquartered airline has a fleet of 116 planes (including those leased to other carriers). Of these, eight are Airbus A330-200 and 65 Boeing B737-800s, besides other type of aircraft, according to airline's website.
A Jet Airways Boeing 737-800 offers 168 seats (12 seats in business class an rest 156 in economy) as against 254 (18 in business an 236 seats in business class) seats in its Airbus A330-200.
