Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi's son Suraj Pancholi, arrested for allegedly abeting the suicide of actress Jiah Khan, has said her mother, Rabiyah Khan, is seeking revenge.
"Complainant (Rabiyah) is taking revenge for reasons best known to her," Suraj's bail application before the sessions court here says.
The application was to be heard today but the court adjourned the hearing to June 21 as the police are yet to file their reply.
This means that Suraj, lodged in the Arthur Road jail here since his arrest on June 10, will have to spend at least seven more days in prison.
The application, filed through his lawyer C K Talekar, also alleges Rabiyah is misusing Jiah's letter which was found four days after her suicide at her house here on June 3.
Police arrested Suraj on the basis of this letter.
Suraj's bail plea also contends a five-page letter cannot be written before committing suicide. Moreover, it is not addressed to him and does not have his name, it says.
The Andheri magistrate's court had remanded Suraj in judicial custody after rejecting the police's application for custody.
Jiah's letter said she was "heartbroken" in her relationship with Suraj and was fed up with his "womanising".
