JNU to deduct salary of teachers for participating in strike

JNU teachers, who participated in a day-long strike, will lose a day's salary, the varsity authorities have said.
"Under the principle of 'no work, no pay', such faculty members who had participated in the strike will not be given pay and allowances for the day of strike," JNU Registrar Pramod Kumar said in a notice issued to the faculty members.
"It is proposed to take action against teachers who participated in the strike on January 17 under the laid down provisions," he said.
The JNU Teachers Association (JNUTA) had observed a day-long strike on January 17 in protest against several notices to faculty members for addressing a student protest against the decisions taken at the council meetings.

Five professors were served notices for "not following the rules" by addressing student protest gatherings outside the administration block, which has been banned as a protest venue by the university now.
The teachers have termed the decision to cut their salaries as another "threat".
"First they sent notices to us over addressing students. Now they are threatening us with salary cut. Teachers don't fall under the Central Civil Service (CCS) rule which the administration is citing," said JNUTA president Ajay Patnaik.
The administration, however, claimed that the central government rules are applied in cases where the university does not have its own rules.
