Joint secy-rank officer arrested for disproportionate assets

Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths today arrested a joint secretary with the General Administration Department of Andhra Pradesh for possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Central Investigation Unit officials of ACB conducted simultaneous raids at the houses of the accused officer K V Ranga Sai Kumar, his relatives, and proxies holding properties for him in Hyderabad, Kadapa, Bengaluru, Rajamahendravaram and Guntur.
Assets worth over Rs three crore (registered value) were found during the searches, ACB Director General R P Thakur said in a press release.
Market value of the assets would be much more.
The searches were going on late in the eventing. Two bank lockers of the accused in Hyderabad were yet to be opened.
Sai Kumar, who started his career as an assistant section officer in the Secretariat, was promoted to the joint secretary rank in October 2015. He had also served as private secretary to some former ministers, sources said.
The DG's press release said the accused and his relatives were found to be owning two residential plots in Bengaluru, a flat in Hyderabad, a two-storey building, another flat and several residential plots elsewhere.
Gold jewellery weighing one kg, silver articles weighing 10 kg, Rs 20 lakh in cash, Rs 15 lakh in bank balance, Rs 16 lakh in fixed deposits and Rs 20 lakh in paid receipts of a private chit fund company were also seized.
A car and a two-wheeler were also confiscated.
Sai Kumar also possessed highly expensive foreign watches and pens, the ACB release said.
