JSL, TERI come out with 'green' gas stove

Largest domestic stainless steel producer Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) in collaboration with the Energy and Resources Institute has developed an environment- friendly maintenance-free gas stove, priced at Rs 3,200.
"The stove which is made up of mix of 200 and 300 series stainless steel ensures high reduction in toxic emissions during cooking and has longer life and better corrosion resistance in adverse village environment and at the same time is economically affordable," JSL said in a statement.
It has been designed for efficient consumption of the calorific value of the input bio fuel thereby reducing the cooking time, the company said adding this corrosion resistant, durable and maintenance-free gas stove is priced at Rs 3,200.

The company said globally almost 2 million deaths a year are attributed to indoor air pollution from solid fuel use, as per UNDP and WHO data.
"Over 60 per cent of households in India depend upon biomass as fuel for cooking and our women and children get regularly exposed to the health risks arising from inhaling toxic fumes released during inefficient burning of biomass fuels," it added.
The stoves have passed testing standards set by the government and are also approved by IIT Delhi, it said adding the stoves are being marketed by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) through their independent Energy Enterprises Shops.

The shops carry direct retail sales of clean energy based lighting and cooking devices, manage spares bank and provide after-sales service at last mile locations.
