Kashmiri Pandits in the national capital today decided to join a protest in Srinagar on June 4 against the Jammu and Kashmir government's failure to accede to their six demands including passing of the pending Temples and Shrines Bill.
The All Parties Migrants Co-ordination Committee (APMCC), an amalgam of several political and social organizations, said a large number of Kashmiri Pandit organisations deliberated upon the discriminatory attitude of Jammu and Kashmir Government and its broken promise with the committee activists at Porbandar in Gujarat.
In a release, Delhi Unit of APMCC led by Ravinder Pandita said, "it was decided to join APMCC in the historic protest demonstration at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on June 4, against J&K Government for not adhering to its Porbandar Commitment on our six-point charter of demands."
Pandita said the government twice promised to initiate dialogue but ditched the community after APMCC's Chairman Vinod Pandit broke his fast-unto-death.
"During Porbandar agitation the government through Revenue Minister Aijaz Ahmed Khan had promised in writing to initiate dialogue but after one meeting the government again went to slumber.
"Now it is time we get together and fight the discriminatory attitude of the government inside Kashmir for which the first ever massive protest demonstration is being organized on June 4, 2014 in Srinagar," the release said.
It said Pandit had gone for fast-unto-death twice, one in October 2011 for 10-days and second time at Porbandar in January last year for 15 days.
The six-point charter of demands include passing of the pending Kashmir Temples and Shrines Bill in state Assembly, probe into encroachment of the temples and shrines land worth crores in Kashmir, dialogue with Pakistan for facilitating visit to Mata Shardha Peet Temple in PoK, establishment of Sharda Peet University in J&K, one time compensation for over-aged Migrant Kashmiri Hindu Youth and special employment package for non-migrant Hindus of Kashmir.
