Katy Perry wins case with businesswoman over LA convent

A Los Angeles jury has ruled in favour of singer Katy Perry in a court battle with a businesswoman over the ownership of a former convent.
The jury award the "Bon Appetite" singer USD 1.6 million as compensation to cover her costs, reported Variety.
The jurors also awarded the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles USD 3.5 million in damages in the same case.
Perry had purchased an 8-acre property for USD 14.5 million in a central Los Angeles neighbourhood in 2015. The property included a Roman-villa style building, with an attached convent that had closed down in 2011.
The jury ruled that restaurant owner Dana Hollister tried to thwart the sale of the property after she purchased it from two nuns.

The jury also said that Hollister acted with malice, oppression or fraud, giving Perry and the archdiocese the chance to recover damages in a second phase of the trial next month.
