Kayani has no plans to work or write book: Brother

Pakistan Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has no plans to take up a job or pen his memoirs after he hangs up his boots this week, his brother has said.
"A COAS (Chief of Army Staff) never does a job," Brig (retired) Amjad Kayani, the army chief's brother, said while speaking about his plans after he retires on November 29.
He said the family was happy that Kayani would join them after retirement as he was not in good health due to chain smoking. "He needs rest; he will not be doing any job," he said.
Amjad, a successful businessman who retired in 2005 after serving in the infantry, told The News daily that his brother had no plans to pen a book after stepping down.

"He will not; if he asked me, I will not advise him (not to) because one cannot write the whole truth," he said.
He said Jahangir Karamat was the only former army chief who opted for a job after retirement.

Kayani, who was appointed army chief by former dictator Pervez Musharraf in 2007 and given an unprecedented three-year extension in 2010, has already announced that he will step down when his term ends this month.
Referring to the family's reaction to Kayani's extension in service, he said almost every family member was against it. Amjad said there were "some military compulsions" that required Kayani to continue in office.

Asked if it was true that their mother called Kayani a 'majh' (buffalo), Ajmad nodded in affirmation and said this was because his brother was a reticent person.
When Kayani was a colonel and served under former premiers Benazir Bhutto, Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi and Nawaz Sharif as Deputy Military Secretary in the Prime Minister's House in the early 1990s, he would never share anything official with any relative and so their mother would call him 'majh', he said.
