Kazakh national held for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.28 crore

A Kazakh national has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valued about Rs 1.28 crore at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
The accused was intercepted by the customs officials after his arrival from Almaty, Kazakhstan on Friday. During detailed examination of his baggage and personal search, three gold bars in raw form weighing 4.9 kg having market value of Rs 1.28 crore were recovered, a press release issued today by the customs said.
The passenger has been arrested and the gold bars have been seized, it said.
In another case, gold worth about Rs 20 lakh has been seized from the passenger yesterday. The accused was intercepted after his arrival from Dubai. He was allegedly found carrying gold articles of various shapes weighing 855 grams and valued Rs 19.93 lakh, the release said.
