Normal life in Manipur was hit today, particularly in valley districts, by a 12-hour general strike called by proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Maoist).
The strike began at 5 am and no violence was reported from any part of the state.
Business establishments remained closed and public transport kept off the roads.
Medical services, media and religious events were kept outside the purview of the bandh.
The shut down was called to protest against the alleged fake encounter that claimed the life of Sanjit, an unarmed suspected militant here in 2009.
