Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a letter to Union Minister for Railways Malikarjun Kharge pointed out that the Kerala government has handed over 239 acres of land to the railways on August 17, 2012 when the foundation-stone of the factory laid.
Further with the approval of the Union Cabinet, on September 25, 2012, Railway Board Chairman sought six month's time to implement the project.
But, even after a year-and-a-half, there has not been any progress on the status of the project. The letter also invites the attention to the disappointment of the people due to the beginning of a similar project elsewhere in the country.
The government of Kerala was also blamed for not putting the required pressure on the Centre to get the project through.
