A sessions court here has acquitted two associates of slain terror suspect Vikaruddin Ahmed in a case related to the killing of a police constable in 2010.
Two bike-borne persons had fired at constable Ramesh and another policeman here on May 14, 2010, resulting in Ramesh's death.
Two months later, police claimed to have busted a terror group called Tahreek Galba-e-Islam with the arrest of Vikaruddin, Mohammed Riyaz Khan, Mohammed Sayeed, Amjad Ali, Mohd Zakir and Dr Haneef. Subsequently, Izhar Khan and Vinod Kumar Sahu were arrested from Uttar Pradesh.
Riyaz and Sayeed were acquitted.
The group wanted to avenge killing of Muslim youths in police firing following a bomb blast in Mecca Masjid area on May 18, 2007, police said.
The accused were involved in four incidents of firing on police in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, killing three policemen and injuring four others altogether, investigators claimed.
Vikaruddin, Amjad Ali, Mohammed Zakir, Dr Haneef and Izhar Khan were shot dead by police in Nalgonda district when they allegedly tried to flee while being brought to a Hyderabad court from a prison in Warangal on April 7, 2015.
Riyaz and Sayeed faced trial in the case related to constable Ramesh's death.
A senior official of the Special Investigation Team of Hyderabad police today confirmed that both were acquitted by the court on May 31.
Defence lawyer Mohd Muzafferullah Khan said the prosecution failed to prove its case of criminal conspiracy.
A court had last year acquitted Riyaz, Sayeed and Sahu in the case related to killing a Home Guard in 2009.
