Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd, a Government of India undertaking, plans to make the company a global leader in pelletisation.
"We expect top firms from across the world to send their ore to us for pelletisation. Our marketing team has been working on the same. This will be an important revenue stream for KIOCL," company Chairman & Managing Director Malay Chatterjee said.
KIOCL, which was catering to the demands of domestic steel firms, such as SAIL, ESSAR, JINDAL, BPSL, WELSPUN and others, was still paying dividends to the Central Government, he said.
Chatterjee stated this at an event organised by the Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM) to felicitate National Awardees on Friday, in which he was also felicitated for the award "Chief Executive of the Year," IIMM said in a release.
KIOCL has diversified its business and helped other companies set up pelletisation plants in different parts of the country, which was expected to aid its growth, he said. KIOCL had to cease mining operations in Karnataka following the declaration of the National Park in the Western Ghats.
"We closed down our mining operations at Kudremukh. But KIOCL is still a profitable company, as we diversified our business. Today, we are in the business of setting up pelletisation plants. There is a dire need for technological knowhow across the nation for pelletisation. We are helping other firms set up pelletisation plants," he was quoted as saying.
T Venkataraju, Engineer-in-Chief, Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board, who received the award for "Best Supply Chain Practices in Water Management" on behalf of BWSSB, said it supplied 1400 million litres of water per day to the entire city with 19 TMC/ annum."We will add another 10 TMC to address the growing needs of the city."
Suhas Prasanna, Vice-President (Central Procurement), Columbia Asia Hospitals Pvt. Ltd., who delivered the keynote address, stressed the need for companies to adopt effective material management practices to ensure long-term profits. He said the same applied to the healthcare sector where now patients and doctors were both demanding better facilities.
D Subramani, Branch Chairman, IIMM-Bengaluru, who won the "President's Appreciation Award", also received the "Best Branch (Metro) Award" on behalf of the IIMM Bengaluru.
