Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today stressed that knowledge-based education is the need of the hour and that is why his government has given added thrust to it.
"With the coming up of several educational institutions of repute, there has been a qualitative change in the education sector in the state," Gogoi said at the First Convocation of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati campus here today.
"The educational environment in the state has changed for the better, thanks to the coming up of educational institutions of repute," the CM said.
"Our Government has given emphasis on quality education. Today, Assam boasts of educational institutions of national importance. We want to make Assam or for that matter the North East as a knowledge-based educational hub," he said.
"That is why we have encouraged the participation of private partners through the PPP mode to bring about qualitative change in the education scene," Gogoi added.
Terming the new age as an age of 'innovation and new concepts' he said, "New innovative ideas have to germinate among the youth in the backdrop of a fast advancing world. I have great expectations on TISS which has emerged as an ideal institution to take the lead."
Gogoi advocated for sustainable development based on judicious harnessing of natural resources for the benefit of the people.
"Natural resources must be exploited in such a manner that it causes no harm to the environment. Overexploitation will lead to ecological imbalance," he stated.
