A day after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan lashed out at the State Human Rights Commission for seeking a CBI probe into the alleged custodial death of a 26-year-old man, its Acting Chairman P Mohana Das today said he had not overstepped the mandate of the panel.

"I can assert that I have not exceeded the limit of the law and made any statement not only on this issue but on any matter," Das said.

He said the Chief Minister might have criticised the Commission due to "ignorance of law."
