Dr L Subramaniam, known as "the god of Indian violin" joined hundreds of music lovers in the city for a special performance to mourn the loss of lives in the twin tower attack in New York 16 years ago.
"Incredible! Incredible performance," said those present in the audience as Subramaniam performed at the Georgetown University.
The legendary Indian musicians received a standing ovation from the audience present in the packed prestigious Gaston hall of the university.
Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice G Wells, and Lisa Curtis who heads the South Asia division inside the National Security Council of the White House were present during the event.
In his address, the Indian Ambassador to the US, Navtej Sarna, said there is another 9/11 the world commemorates - which is the historic speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda in Chicago 125 years ago.
That was the message of love, harmony and brotherhood, he said.
"In marking and dedicating this concert to the memories of all those who lost their lives due to the terrorist attack, we hope to propagate the message of other 9/11.
"The message of love, harmony and brotherhood. We can think of no other better vehicle to transmit this message other than music," Sarna said.
The concert began with a special raga tribute to the victims of 9/11 and spread the message of peace.
Sarna said the music concert on September 11 is a joint expression of the strong commitment of both India and the United States to stand shoulder to shoulder against terrorism and a fitting tribute to its innocent victims.
"Music transcends border, religion, countries, people and it has its own message."
He said India and the US, both of which are pluralistic democratic societies, are particularly vulnerable to the dangers of terrorism.
"And today, as India turns 70, we are very well aware of this challenge," he said, adding that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US President Donald Trump have together taken a very strong stand against terrorism, during their meetings and in their public statements.
