Police today initiated legal proceedings against a news portal for allegedly circulating a letter, which they termed as a "propaganda material", from Abdul Mannan Wani, a former Aligarh Muslim University scholar who joined Hizbul Mujahideen earlier this year.
The letter was allegedly carried by the news portal yesterday.
"Police have taken cognizance of the propaganda material circulated by a responsible portal involving a proscribed terrorist organisation HM (Hizbul Mujahideen)," a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said Wani, affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, was behind the write up carried by the news portal.
"Legal proceedings under relevant provisions have been initiated by the police," he added.
