The 39-year-old 'Great Gatsby' star recently attended the Paramount Pictures lunch in California, where he scored an autographed poster from Rooney, 93, reported New York Daily News online.
"Leo was on cloud nine about it. They spent a fair amount of time talking about old movies together," a source said.
Rooney has been honoured with a Juvenile Academy Award, an Honorary Academy Award, two Golden Globes and an Emmy Award.
