A leopard was today beaten to death by an angry mob after it injured six persons in Changmari village of the district in West Bengal.
The leopard strayed into the village and attacked six villagers, Jaldapara wildlife warden Sima Choudhury said.
As the villagers armed with sharp weapons gathered on the spot, the animal managed to climb a tree but on its subsequent fall it was beaten to death, Choudhury said.
Forest officials rushed to the spot and tried to save the animal but the presence of a strong mob irked over the attack killed the big cat.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
