Live and achieve, Jaya tells woman

Assuaging the hurt feelings of a woman who attempted suicide after learning about a derogatory article on a Sri Lankan official website against her, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa advised the woman to live with confidence, achieve and support achievers.
"I have tremendous faith in achieving and winning in my struggle and work for the Tamil language and Tamil people," Jayalalithaa said in a letter to Vijayalakshmi, a resident of Peramanur in Salem District.
Advising the woman to lead her life with similar faith, she said,"you must live with the same confidence, achieve and support achievers."
Quoting a saying of Tamil bard of yore Avvaiyar which underscores the rarity of taking birth as a human being, Jayalalithaa said human life was invaluable.

"I urge you to not try to end your priceless life," she said adding suicide was an act of cowardice. "I was grieved to learn about your attempt to commit suicide."
The article in the website of Ministry of Defence and Urban Development of Sri Lanka left all sections of society in Tamil Nadu angry with AIADMK and various Tamil outfits staging protests and venting their anger by burning effigies and photos of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The article was later removed with Sri Lanka tendering an 'unqualified apology.'
"We extend an unqualified apology to the Hon Prime Minister of India and Hon Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu," said a statement posted on the Lankan Defence Ministry website.
