The Delhi Lokayukta, which has been at loggerheads with Delhi government on a number of issues, has complimented the latter for responding "positively" to its directions in a case related to the construction of a railway overbridge, saying both sides can work together in promoting good governance.
Following an intervention by Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin and the Public Grievances Commission of Delhi government hurdles were removed and the necessary funds released for the construction of the overbridge in the Bijwasan area in north Delhi.
"This is one of the few cases where the government of NCT of Delhi has responded positively and enabled Lokayukta to be an ally in promoting good governance," Justice Sarin said.
In his order, the Lokayukta dismissed a complaint by the BJP MLA from Bijwasan, Sat Prakash Rana, that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had not released funds for the project due to political reasons.
The project, costing Rs 132 crore, is being executed by the municipal corporation with financial asistance from the Railways and Delhi government.
The Lokayukta has been at loggerheads with Delhi government on a number of issues.
It has pronounced a number of orders against Dikshit and her government in the last couple of years.
