As a precautionary measure, people living nearby were evacuated, traffic was diverted and power was cut off in the area, they said.
The tanker was on its way to Kochi when the mishap occurred.
Malappuram District Collector K Biju said there was no need for any panic as gas had not leaked from the tanker.
Experts from from Indian Oil Corporation plant at nearby Chelari rushed to the spot, he said.
In a similar incident on March 29, an autorickshaw driver was killed when an LPG gas tanker fell on the three-wheeler while negotiating a curve at West Hill here.
