Lt Gen Patyal would be in-charge of the Army's planning and system division.
Lt Gen Patyal had served in various key positions in the army including as General Officer Commanding of 14 Corps, the corps which guards the LoC with China as well as Pakistan.
The 14 Corps is one of the most strategic corps of the Army which was raised in 1999 following the Kargil war.
He has also served in Border Roads Organisation.
Lt Gen Patyal had joined army in 1979. He took charge as Deputy chief of Army Staff following superannuation of Lt Gen Saha.
