Officials said the suspect was apprehended yesterday at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station after his movements were seen to be suspicious. The accused has been identified as Akash Kumar (30), a resident of Paharganj area in the national capital.
"It was observed by our intelligence team that Kumar would enter the station and go to the token vending machine placed in the station but without generating a ticket he would leave.
"He would repeat this a number of times in order to set his eye on the passengers' luggage which was either kept on the X-ray machine or elsewhere in the station area," a senior Central Industrial Security Force officer said.
Some cash, an ATM card and few other identity documents were recovered from him when he was frisked.
"Kumar was later handed over to Delhi police for further questioning and it is suspected he would be involved in some other thefts that have taken place earlier in busy Delhi Metro stations," the officer said.
