Last year, the Department of Telecom and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had approved the Mobile Virtual Network operator licensing process.
"We are going to launch Lyca Mobile in India. It will be through MVN (mobile virtual network). We will launch our service after getting the MVN license", Lyca Group Chairman Subaskaran told reporters here.
Lyca Mobile already offers international SIM cards to Indian customers who plan to travel overseas.
"We will invest a quarter billion (here in India)", he said, when asked about investment plans for the Indian market.
Elaborating on the service to be offered through MVNO, Subaskaran said that the company offers telecom service in 22 countries and customers need not pay "roaming charges" when they use Lyca Mobile in such countries.
"Lyca Mobile is currently available in 22 countries. When customers (of Lyca Mobile) visit any of these countries, there will not be any roaming charges.", he said.
About the company revenues, he said they had registered a turnover of Euro 1.6 billion.
