The first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar announced that the CISF security cover will be extended from November 16 for one year after a PIL in this regard came up.
The Additional Solicitor General, G Rajagopalan, appearing for the central government, submitted that as of now the security is provided to the main building of the high court.
However, it has to be extended to the entire campus in view of agitations and rallies that were carried out inside the campus in violation of the high court order.
To this, the judges said that all these matters can be discussed with the Security Committee of the High Court.
It further said, "At this stage we feel it appropriate to extend the CISF Security for another one year."
The security of the Madras High Court complex was taken over by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from the state police on November 16, 2015 after lawyers created a ruckus while agitating for declaration of Tamil as an official language of the court and over contempt of court proceedings against two Madurai-based bar association leaders.
