Shiv Sena member Shrirang Barne raised the issue of the collapse of a British-era bridge over a swollen Savitri river on the Mumbai-Goa highway in Raigad district of Maharashtra, in which at least two persons drowned and 20 others were missing as two buses were swept away.
He warned that another bridge in Chiplun may face a similar fate and said though the government had started work to widen the highway since 2011, the pace of work in his constituency, between Panvel to Indapur, was slow and no work has been done for the last three years.
Neiphiu Rio (Nagaland People's Front) said exactly a year has passed since the "historic peace deal" between the government and the NSCN(I-M) but there has been "no final settlement" as yet.
The former Nagaland Chief Minister said in 1997, a ceasefire agreement was signed between India and NSCN(I-M) and over 100 rounds of talks were held between them. He demanded urgent steps for a speedy solution to the problem.
Kharge said since July 2014, there has been shortage of the literature and asked the government to give "high priority" to the issue.
At this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said he will inform the concerned minister on the matter.
