Maha Election Commission's maiden tableau at R-Day parade

For the first time a tableau by the State Election Commission (SEC) will participate in the Republic Day parade at Shivaji Park.
Maharashtra election commissioner J S Saharia today inaugurated the replica of the float at his office.
The election commission in its official communication stated that the float would serve two purposes -- awareness among the voters and completion of 25-years of constitutional amendments 73 and 74 that helped the states to establish panchayats to serve as institutions of local self-government.
These amendments ensured that local self governments enjoyed greater autonomy and empowered people and institutions.
