Maharashtra Legislative Council was today adjourned for the day after Opposition legislators staged protest against Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's remarks on drought and loadshedding.
Leader of Opposition in the Upper House, Vinod Tawde demanded resignation of Pawar and to hold a debate under rule 289, which was rejected by Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh.
"I have rejected the demand made by Opposition to hold a debate under rule 289," Deshmukh told the House.
Coming in support of Pawar, NCP legislators said since the Deputy Chief Minister has tendered an apology yesterday, the matter is now closed.
However, Tawde, Sena group leader in the Council Diwakar Raote, Peasants and Workers Party's (PWP) Jayant Patil and others rushed in to the Well, demanding a debate on the issue under rule 289, leading to adjournment of the House twice in the day and later on for the entire day.
