A man has been arrested for allegedly providing forged surety documents for an accused seeking bail, Thane police said Tuesday.
An official said that accused Amit Pandey (22) had applied for bail in connection with a case registered at Kalwa station.
"Accused Aasaram Yadav, who has been arrested, and Santlal Pal, who is at large, forged documents to offer guarantee for Pandey," he said.
When the court asked Yadav if he knew Pandey, the former replied in the negative and said Pal had asked him to submit a fake affidavit claiming that he knew Pandey.
"Yadav said he had offered guarantee for Pandey's bail as Pal had paid his house rent of Rs 2,000 and had promised another Rs 1,000," he said.
The official said First Class Judicial Magistrate R T Ingle then ordered police to take action against the accused.
