Malaysia remember Chua Boon Huat ahead of Asia Cup opener

As a mark of respect to the departed soul of Malaysia's longest-serving hockey player, Chua Boon Huat, one-minute silence was observed before the start of the Asia Cup match between the home team and Chinese Taipei, here today.
Chua, as he was fondly called, died in a car crash on August 1 while the team was preparing for the ongoing Asia Cup.
The Malaysian Hockey Confederation had already rested the number three jersey, which Chua used to wear, for the Asia Cup in memory of the late defender.
Chua was one of the highly-decorated hockey players of Malaysia.
Under Paul Lissek, he made his debut for the national team as a 17-year-old in the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Chua, who had more than 321 caps for Malaysia, had played in major competitions such as the World Cup, Olympics, Champions Trophy, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and the Asia Cup.
He was also the skipper of the 2001 National Junior team which featured in the Junior World Cup in Hobart.
