The Maldives' government has asked citizens to report information regarding allegations of corruption during the tenure of a strongman leader defeated in elections last year.
The statement from the Maldives president's office Wednesday comes a day after police questioned ex-President Yameen Abdul Gayoom over alleged illegal financial transactions for a third time.
The statement said information on cases of corruption and abuse of power within state institutions from January 1, 2012, to November 17, 2018, could be reported via written submission to the Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery.
Submission of information should be made before February 24.
Yameen was president for most of that period.
The commission was established by new President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih when he assumed office in November, after defeating Yameen in elections.
