The riverfront beautification work carried out at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore has been completed in seven months, officials said.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has been the nodal agency for the project.
Banerjee said, "The work will draw a lot of people to the riverfront and many tourists will also visit the site. It will create jobs for the locals."
The government has decided to continue with the riverfront beautification work for 25 km till Dakshineswar on the northern fringe of the city, she said.
Later the work would be extended to Tribeni and similar work would also be carried out at Howrah side of the river bank, Banerjee said.
