Mamata carrying state-aided attack on Bhangar farmers: Adhir

West Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury today blamed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of carrying out state-sponsored attack on poor farmers of Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district.
"The state administration has branded poor farmers, who elected her representatives to power, as waging war against state and has arrested them after slapping serious charges," Chowdhury told reporters here.
"We want a reply from the chief minister. Are you sending them to jail just because they had protested your project?" Chowdhury asked.
Describing the presence of Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Superintendent of Police (South 24 Parganas) on the podium of Mamata's meeting at Bhangar yesterday as "shameful", Chowdhury said "Does the TMC want state bureaucrats to become party activists in future?"

Chowdhury also accused the TMC government of looting poor farmers.
"While she has claimed farmers' loans have been waived off, in effect it has been hiked by multiple times. If many other governments can waive the loan of farmers, why not the West Bengal government?" he asked.

He also demanded farmers should get minimum support price and fair price for their paddy, potato and other crops.
Chowdhury also blamed Mamata of taking undue credit for road projects "which had been cleared by the UPA government back in 2005. It is a matter of joke that you can see Mamata's name everywhere in each project in the state."

Alleging that the TMC has "sheltered goons from all over the state under its umbrella," he said, "Now they are dumping some of them and taking the help of others."
The Congress leader said a rally will be taken out in Bhangar tomorrow and a rally will be held on July 17 at Sahid Minar Maidan which will be attended by party central leadership.
Chowdhury also blamed state and central BJP of speaking in different voices on the Darjeeling issue.
"The Centre complied with Banerjee's request for Army deployment, while the state BJP was busy trading charges," he said.
