In a strong message to party leaders, including a few high-profile ones, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee today said she would not tolerate "factionalism", which she held responsible for the loss of 15-20 seats in the recently concluded Assembly elections in West Bengal.
In a blunt message, she told the party men during a workshop that once the party gave ticket to someone, he would have to work together with other party members.
"Factionalism led to the party's losing 15-20 seats in the Assembly poll. I will not tolerate factionalism or any anti-party activity," she said.
Banerjee named leaders such as state minister Purnendu Bose, Bidhanagar Municipal Corporation Mayaor Sabyasachi Dutt, TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and TMC MLA Sujit Bose in her stern reminder and asked them to refrain from infighting in the Rajarahat- Newtown area of North 24- Parganas district.
"There are certain leaders such as Biplab Mitra of South Dinajpur. It is because of his infighting with other leaders that had led to our loss in a few seats in that district."
"In Malda we have lost because of the feudal mindset of certain leaders. I thing such leaders should now take rest and new leaders should take over in the district," she said.
She also warned of stern action against those who were trying to use party platform to subserve personal interests.
"I will not tolerate two three factions of our party's trade union. In each place our party will have only one union. I don't care about the stature of the leader. I will not tolerate if anyone tries to use the party as a platform to serve their own interests over the interest of the party," Banerjee said.
