A person has been booked for allegedly impersonating as Chairman of Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC), police said today.
A case was registered yesterday against the accused, Joginder Singh Matto, but no arrest has been made so far as he is evading, police said.
The matter came to light when Matto held a media interaction at Chandigarh recently posing as the Chairman of Punjab State Human Rights Commission, Superintendent of Police Harjit Singh Pannu said.
The Commission reported the matter to police. Matto was summoned five times to produce the letter of authority or licence as Chairman of PSHRC but he failed to appear before police, Pannu said.
A probe revealed that Matto was allegedly misleading the local administration and was cheating people by posing as Chairman of PSHRC, police said.
