A 48-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh allegedly committed suicide after killing his daughter in a hotel room here as he was depressed over his financial situation.
Kuldeep Rastogi, who hailed from Badaun district, had arrived here two days ago to get his daughter, Deepansha (18), admitted to a coaching institute to prepare for entrance exams, Circle In-charge (CI) Bhimganjmandi police station Harish Bharti said.
According to the hotel manager, on Friday, police was called to investigate when no one opened the door after repeated knocks, Bharti said.
On breaking open the door, police found Kuldeep hanging from the ceiling while his daughter was lying on the bed with foam covering her mouth, he said.
Preliminary investigations suggest the father might have committed suicide after killing the daughter, Bharti said.
He added that no injury marks were found on the daughter's body and cause of her death would be ascertained only after the postmortem.
In the suicide note, recovered from the room, the father stated that he took extreme step due to his poor financial condition, the CI said.
The postmortem of the bodies would be done once the family members deceased arrive from Badaun, he said.
The matter is being investigated and a case under section 174 of CrPC would be lodged, he further said.
